Annual Adopt-a-Beach™ Spring Kickoff Event
What: Annual spring event in which Adopt-a-Beach™ teams visit their beaches to collect data. When: May 1 - May 15, 2011. Adopters pick a day to participate during this period. Where: Adopters participate at their adopted beach. Who: Returning Adopt-a-Beach™ teams and new teams. The Spring Kickoff is a great opportunity for new teams to join the program. Why: The Spring Kickoff is an opportunity for adopters to be part of this important event to rid our beaches and shorelines of trash and to record valuable information about the trash collected and water quality conditions. Information gathered at this event is used to make positive changes for our Great Lakes. A Shore Thing: Trash to Sculpture Contest This year, in conjunction with the Spring Kickoff we invite Adopt-a-Beach™ participants to demonstrate their creative skills while showing what it means to be an adopter by creating sculptures out of found debris during your beach visits. A selection of final entries will be featured at the Alliance’s Taste of the Great Lakes fundraising event on June 17th in Chicago where the winner of the contest will be chosen.
