Chicago, IL (Friday, July 28, 2017) – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s (OH-09) office has announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will release the Brandon Road Study on August 7. The Alliance for the Great Lakes has released the following statement in response:
“We applaud the work of many Congressional Great Lakes champions and thousands of citizens from around the Great Lakes region who have pushed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the White House to release this study.
The release of this study should have happened in February, but was held up by the White House at the urging of industry groups and the state of Illinois. The finding of an adult Asian carp north of the electric barrier and just nine miles from Lake Michigan near Chicago was a wake-up call to the region. Asian carp populations continue to move toward Lake Michigan and urgent action is needed to implement additional Asian carp control measures at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam.
We look forward to reviewing the draft study. We encourage the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide the public ample opportunity to comment.”
