Employee Volunteer Grants

Multiply the impact of your volunteer time with a donation from your employer!

You love the lakes. Your company probably does too.

Did you know that some companies match employee volunteer time with donations to our organization? Volunteer grant programs help your volunteer work go further, turning your volunteer time into financial gifts to the Alliance! This makes a huge difference, especially when combined with other volunteers like you and their employers who match their volunteering, too.

Please use the search tool below to see if your company will provide a volunteer grant and to access the forms, guidelines, and instructions that you need to submit. Thank you!

Enter the name of the company you work for and scroll down to where it says “Volunteer Grants” to learn if your employer provides Volunteer Grants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteer grant programs are corporate giving programs in which companies provide monetary donations to organizations where employees volunteer regularly. If you volunteer with us, it’s an easy way to provide us with additional financial support!

Activities eligible for volunteer grants may include regularly volunteering with Adopt-a-Beach, giving presentations and tabling as an Alliance Ambassador, serving on a volunteer committee, event volunteering, administrative volunteering, and skill-based volunteering.

Requesting a volunteer grant is normally a five-minute process that must be initiated by the volunteer. You can do this by filling out and submitting a paper match form provided by your employer or through an electronic submission process (depending on your employer’s process). Please search our database for company-specific information.

  1. Volunteer with the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
  2. Log into your company’s volunteer grant submission website (if you use the above search tool, you will receive a follow-up email linking to that page).
  3. Once logged in, search for the nonprofit that you volunteered for.
  4. Select the Alliance for the Great Lakes from the search result. If it is not found, manually enter the organization’s details.
  5. Register your volunteer hours.
  6. Submit the completed volunteer grant request to your employer.

If you submit your matching gift outside of this volunteer grant page, contact us directly to notify our team of the request, so we may track the funds as needed.

While your donation to a 501(c)3 organization is tax-deductible, your volunteer grant is not tax-deductible. Only your personal contributions are eligible for tax-deduction. Each party involved (yourself and your employer) can only take deductions for contributions they directly made to the nonprofit.

For questions regarding your company’s programs, please contact your employer’s HR or community giving department. Much of the necessary information is also available on your company intranet. For questions regarding submitting a volunteer grant request to us, please contact us at alliance@greatlakes.org or 312-939-0838.
