At the Alliance for the Great Lakes Board of Directors meeting on October 2, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio, the Board welcomed Dr. Mila Marshall and announced other officer and leadership changes.
New Board Member: Dr. Mila K. Marshall
Dr. Mila K. Marshall is an ecologist, environmental scientist, educator, and clean water advocate whose work focuses on the intersection of water science, environmental policy, and environmental justice. As Clean Water Advocate for the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter, she works on implementing and enforcing the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act, including NPDES permitting, impaired waters, wastewater discharges, nutrient pollution, PFAS, lead service lines, and protections for drinking and recreational waters. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Illinois Chicago and teaches environmental science at Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Marshall also serves on the Illinois Groundwater Advisory Council and Natural Resources Advisory Board, contributing scientific and policy expertise to the protection and management of Illinois’ water resources.
New & Returning Officers
Tim Frick has been elected Board Chair. Al Steinman’s title has been updated to Vice Chair, Programs. Kevin Jordan has been elected Treasurer.
Leaving the Board
The board also bid farewell to Laura Payne and Bill Henry, both of whom have reached the end of their terms. The Alliance is grateful for their years of service and the dedication they brought to this work.
