Webinar – From Farm Fields to the Great Lakes: Protecting the Lakes from Agricultural Pollution
March 24, 2021 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm CDT
Each year, waterways around the Great Lakes region, notably western Lake Erie and Green Bay, suffer from severe algal blooms that threaten drinking water, recreational opportunities, and the region’s economy. And, climate change is just going to make the problem worse. The primary cause? Runoff from agricultural lands. Federal Farm Bill conservation programs are critical to addressing water quality problems caused by agriculture. But these voluntary programs are not enough to prevent this pollution.
Join us for a panel conversation about agricultural pollution and the Great Lakes, and opportunities to improve and create policy programs to prevent this pollution at the federal, state, and local levels. We’ll hear from regional and national experts including:
- Todd Brennan, Alliance for the Great Lakes
- Aviva Glaser, National Wildlife Federation
- Jamie Konopacky, Environmental Working Group
- Tom Zimnicki, Michigan Environmental Council
