It’s National Voter Education Week – and you can make a big impact. Help grow a healthier and more vibrant Great Lakes! Make a voting plan, encourage your community to get #VoteReady, and ensure your voices are heard in shaping the future for our waters.
From U.S. Senators and Representatives to Governors and local elected officials, leaders at every level of government make decisions that affect the health of our lakes, our water, and our communities. Local elections are often decided by just a few votes, so showing up – and helping others show up – makes a big difference in an election and the future of the Great Lakes.
Join us in taking one action each day of National Voter Education Week to protect the Great Lakes and communities that depend on safe, healthy water.
>> Monday – Register to Vote
Get started by registering online. Already registered? It’s still important to check your registration to make sure your information is accurate and up to date. Ask your friends and family to take this action, too!
>> Tuesday – Get to Know Your Ballot
See who’s running for office. Then find out where candidates stand on issues affecting our water and our communities. Use the tips in our guide to help you do your research. Share the resources you’ve found!
>> Wednesday – Make a Voting Plan
Decide when, where, and how you’ll cast your ballot. Vote early if you can and make a plan for how you’ll get to the polls or return your ballot. When you vote early, you ensure that nothing can prevent you from making your voice heard. Share your plan with friends, family, and neighbors and encourage them to make voting plans, too.
>> Thursday – Understand the Process
Know what to expect when you vote. Each state has different laws and rules. Will you need an ID to vote? Does your state have Election Day voter registration? Learn more about your state’s voting rules and share what you learn.
>> Friday – Share with Friends & Family
Help the people you care about get ready to vote. Ask if they’re registered, if they have a plan to vote, and if they need transportation to cast their ballot. Help them make their voices heard!
Voting is the most important way all of us can protect the Great Lakes. Thank you for empowering yourself – and your community – during National Voter Education Week!
