Foundation Partnerships

Institutional Foundations

There are a variety of ways private foundations can support the Alliance for the Great Lakes. Through single- or multi-year grants, we are happy to provide an application or proposal for general operating support, along with support of program outcomes related to water infrastructure, agricultural pollution, local partnerships, plastic pollution, education surrounding large-scale water use, and our Adopt-a-Beach program.

Your foundation can partner with the Alliance in a variety of ways besides grant support, including sponsoring our annual fundraising event, the Great Blue Benefit, or a variety of smaller events throughout the year. You can even get involved with others in the community by participating in an Adopt-a-Beach shoreline cleanup almost anywhere in the Great Lakes region.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes depends on all of these methods of support to continue our work, as foundations are critical champions of the Great Lakes and help us advance our policy goals. If you are a foundation leader, contact Jonathan Heuring, Senior Foundation & Corporate Giving Manager, at jheuring@greatlakes.org.

Family Foundations

Your family’s philanthropy can help protect these waters today while inspiring a shared sense of purpose and stewardship among future generations. Together, we can build a legacy of care that lasts. Whether your family is ready to make a gift or you’d like to explore ways to engage younger generations in meaningful environmental action, we’re here to help. We welcome the opportunity to meet to discuss:

  • Strategic giving opportunities that reflect your family’s values and priorities
  • Hands-on experiences that connect the next generation of philanthropists with the Great Lakes
  • Collaborative initiatives that reflect your foundation’s vision across generations

Your family’s story is part of the Great Lakes story. Let’s write the next chapter together. Contact Matt Altstiel, Vice President for Development, at maltstiel@greatlakes.org.

Our work is made possible by our generous supporters. See some of the funders that currently support our work.
